Dr. Smitha Bhat, PsyD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist Serving Southwest Suburban Chicago
I believe we all have potential for leading a meaningful life and sometimes need a guide through the obstacles that stand in our way. These obstacles may include persistent fears and worries, self-doubt or low self-confidence, difficulty regulating emotions, unresolved healing from trauma, grief and loss, and being “stuck” in the past or self-sabotaging patterns. I work with adults to overcome these and other obstacles resulting in improvement in their relationships, work performance, and overall enjoyment of life.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of clinical, teaching, and clinical supervision experience. I specialize in collaboratively assisting others to identify core causes for their distress, deepen their understanding of their patterns and internal conflicts, and develop an effective plan of action towards change. I have particular interest and expertise in Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Relational Psychodynamic, Emotion-focused, the Gottman Method, and Cognitive-Behavioral approaches to therapy and will work with you to tailor the best course of action.
Previous clients have particularly noted my warm, non-judging, affirmative, and calm presence as a gift in my approach. My style provides a safe, yet challenging environment for us to explore and confront difficult issues in an authentic manner bringing about true, lasting change. If you feel ready to take the next step and make an appointment, or would like a brief phone consultation to see if we’re a good match, please either call or email me to schedule a phone call.
